Capitol Reef
Originally branded at "Wayne Wonderland," Capitol Reef is a National Park in Central Utah that encompasses the Waterpocket Fold. This inland reef is the world's largest exposed monocline. Due the the dry nature of the Utah deserts, the reef bares the rich colors of the sedimentary rock that defines the Colorado Plateau.
The area was declared a National Monument by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1937 and elevated to the status of National Park in 1970 in an effort led by Congressman Laurence J. Burton (R) of Utah.
